The absolute location that the book the 43rd War takes place in is El Salvador. One piece of evidence to show this is the fact that the country had major civil war problems in the 90s (wikipedia). It also said that the climate is hot and it is as well in the book. And at the fortress the soldiers drink coffee with their meals and in El Salvador coffee is farmed a lot (Moeri, 82). I also found out that the Atlacatl was the name of a ruler in El Salvador may years ago, and maybe that is the reason that the author named the volcano in the book the Atlacatl volcano(Moeri, 60). My third piece of the evidence is that in the Chapter 4 the family goes to a Catholic cathedral and the main religion of El Salvador is Roman Catholic (Wikipedia).
Moeri probably did not mention the name of the country because she didn't want to be confined to curtain historic details and wanted to be able to add a little bit of fiction. When she talks about the war she probably had different examples from different Central American countries put together, so even though she put different experiences together it was all true.

Hey Phil. Good post. I agree with all your reasons, especially with the fact that the country had a civil war and also that the tempurature is hot. I never though about the Atlacatl. Good insight. I also agree with your thing about how it is a bit of fiction. Good post, you really went beyond the obvious
hey philippe. good post about the location of the 43rd war. I totally agree about your decision about the location (El Salvador), and I also agree with your reason the author didn't say the country. A very good post philippe.
Hey Phillipe I agree that it took place in El Salvador. Coffee was definitely used a lot in the book so it's almost definitely a main crop of the country the book is set in. I used the evidence about Atlacatl also which is a pretty good piece of evidence. Naw Meen?
Hey Philippe. I agree with your post because of all your reasons. There were a lot of civil war problems in the country and many child solders were used. Also, the climate of El Savador has a very hot climate and in the story Moeri describes the climate as very hot. Furthermore, El Savador's major crop is the coffee plant and in the story every meal, soilders get coffee a luxury in other countries where coffee is rare. Finally, the official religion of El Savador and Moeri describes the Roman Catholic Cathedral. I agree with your opinion on why Moeri didnt mention the location of the country and i would like to add my own opinion. I think that she didnt mention the location because she didnt want to portray the country as a bad one or a one with many problems since that would cause anger from people of El Savador
